Breed: Snowy Owl
Scientific Name: Bubo Scandiacus
Elsa is 6 years old and has been with the Sanctuary since she was a baby. Elsa has a lot of black plumage. She came to us because she cannot fly, her left wing did not develop properly when she was born, making her disabled, and she would have been put down had Paul not taken her from her previous owner. As Paul saved her, she has an unbelievable bond with him, she is a daddy’s girl! Her disability does not affect her in the slightest, in fact she is very independent and likes to do her own thing. She does not like going on the hand as she struggles with her balance but loves her chest being tickled!
The snowy owl is not endangered or threatened in the U.S but is protected under the U.S. Migratory Bird Act. The snowy owl is a large, white owl of the true owl family. Snowy owls are native to Arctic regions in North America and the Palearctic. Males are almost all white, while females have more flecks of black plumage.
